Some films have narrators that fill you in on the thoughts that the characters are having. You know, that running dialogue that goes on while you watch the scene. They do this so that you understand more of what’s going on and what the character’s motivation is. What I want to know is, what in the world is my excuse? The stuff that goes on silently inside most people’s heads seems to come out of my mouth as I go through my day and interact with others. Why do I think people care about the liver cleanse that I’m currently doing, or about why I can’t eat a piece of birthday cake or the challenges I’m having in a relationship. Even if they don’t ask, I feel compelled to keep people apprised of what’s going in my life, whether they care about it or not. What is up with that?! Why can’t I simply go through my day and share pertinent information with folks and leave all the behind the scenes stuff where it belongs, behind the scenes. I think I would have a lot more energy to devote to other things if I wasn’t so focused on sharing so much useless information with people.

This idea dovetails beautifully with learning to be in the present moment. It will be interesting to work on making my conversations more relevant instead of extraneous.
